Mock Trial

An innovative, hands-on experience in the law for high school students of all ages and abilities.

Mock trial is an innovative, hands-on experience in the law for high school students of all ages and abilities. Every year hundreds of New Mexico teenagers and their teacher advisors and attorney coaches spend the better part of the school year researching, studying and preparing a hypothetical courtroom trial involving issues that are important and interesting to young people.

In February, the teams try their cases before judges and panels of jurors in courtrooms in Albuquerque and Las Cruces. In March, the top teams advance to state finals in Albuquerque, with the winner going on to represent the state at the national championship, held each year in a different US city.

The mock trial case materials consist of the Problem (a statement of facts, prosecution/plaintiff and defense witness statements, exhibits, legal authorities), the Rules (of competition and simplified rules of evidence) and the Mock Trial Teacher Coach Manual. The Tips and Advice pages on this site contain a variety of information to help you build your team, to become a skilled student attorney, or to develop as a star student witness.

The problem is for use by participants of New Mexico Mock Trial and shall not be shared with non-participants. All of these materials are copyright protected and may not be altered or adapted without the express written permission of the Center for Civic Values.

To view or print the mock trial case materials, you must have the latest version of Adobe Acrobat© Reader.
